This play premiered in September of 2018, and was based on the true story of a lead-poisoned bald eagle. The majestic bird was rehabilitated at the Nature and Wildlife Discovery Center's Raptor Center of Pueblo. The eagle regains his freedom and positively impacts the lives of six human caregivers forever. The two live performances were well received, and all proceeds were donated to the Raptor Center.

Alice is the founding member of The I Will Projects, a 501(c)3 non-profit dedicated to educating and enlightening the public. She learned about the plight of raptors during her 12-year term on the Nature and Raptor Center advisory board. She became enamored with the survival story of Sparky, an eagle who was severely lead poisoned. Raptor rehab director Diana Miller detailed this transformative account of human damage to the bird population, especially to this top level predator. The book and adapted stage play, EYE OF SURVIVAL aims to increase the awareness and make a call to action for protection, preservation and respect for our bird population.

"I am honored to be involved with The I Will Projects as the Board President because I support its mission and direction. As a writer, I am able to reconfigure difficult conversations and explore different perspectives. I understand the inter-connectivity between humans, the natural world, and people's ability to make substantive changes. We can all be part of the collective voice that multiplies one person at a time, increasing awareness, changing attitudes and becoming unified." - MFS

A CALL FOR ACTION
In 2020, a Colorado high school student wrote an open letter to Governor Jared Polis, describing what the student sees as a mental health crisis among his classmates.
"Just yesterday, December 10th, 2020 at approximately 10:50 a.m. my school counselors sat us down as a class. They had just received word that a student from the school just 15 miles to the west had taken his own life," wrote Cyle Goble, a high school student in Otis, Colorado. "I wish to God that I could say this was the first time we had to experience this, but it was not. This same tragedy had occurred just the week before."
The open letter, posted to Facebook, was shared thousands of times. Goble says it caught on not just because of the focus on mental health, but also because of its focus on (and) approach to Colorado's COVID-19 regulations. "These mandates and restrictions have isolated these students and us from friends and mental health resources," he wrote. (thedenverchannel.com)
In spring of 2021, some of Pueblo's high school students attended workshops where they will learned how to create a "Story Recipe," mixing parts Inspiration, Motivation, & Activation. Some students discovered their voices for the first time, others stepped into ways of seeing their truth, and their myth. Our community is teeming with an amazing diversity of young minds. Some are beautiful, others curious — all deserve our respect, compassion, and protection.
scholarships To Youth speak are not always connected on GPA, and are awarded based on many factors.
